Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Meets:
- What time do I need to arrive for meets?
- Home Meets: 5:00
- Away Meets: 5:15
- What do I do once I arrive at the pool?
- We will have a swimmer and parent volunteer check in area at all meets.
- Please check your swimmers name and your name off
- Then find a location to set up your place for the evening.
- All swimmers must be listening and ready for the team meeting/warm ups at the appropriate time!
- How long does a meet last?
- Meets starts at 6:00pm and go until 9:30 or 10:00 depending on the host team
- Do I have to stay for the whole meet?
- No, if you are finished with your events, you are free to go.
- It is fun though to watch and cheer on your team!
- What do I need to bring?
- Lawn chairs/Pop up Tents or Umbrella for Shade (unless host team says there is no room)
- Towels
- Snacks (there will be concessions offered at most locations as well)
- Water
- Sunscreen/Bug Spray
- Heat Sheet (emailed out as soon as made available)
- Sharpie Marker
- Goggles/Cap (extra pair of goggles if you have them)
- Entertainment items (electronics, games, coloring, legos, etc)
- Cash for concessions if needed
- No alcohol permitted (Greater Charlotte Swim League rule)
- How does my swimmer need to be prepped for the meet?
- Using the Heat Sheet you will look for their event/heat/lane/stroke info
- Using a sharpie you will write this info on their arm (typically on their inner forearm) DO THIS BEFORE APPLYING SUNSCREEN
- Please also mark their upper Left Shoulder with First Initial and Last Name (G.Haines)
- The markings will wash off after a few days :) or with a Norwex cloth
- How does my swimmer know when their event is?
- Most meets will have a flip chart style visual that will let everyone know what event/heat is currently swimming.
- There is also an announcer that will announce the start of each event/heat
- The biggest way to know, is to be seated in our Clerk of Course area.
- We have a seat area marked off (usually with a tent and near the dive blocks) that we line swimmers up in order of heat and lane.
- We have parent volunteers that work very hard to gather the swimmers in plenty of time to get them lined up and ready
- You can help them by being aware of the events going on and where your child is during the meet.
- What can my swimmer expect at their event time?
- Once they leave the Clerk of Course Area, they will sit in chairs behind the blocks.
- A parent volunteer will move them to the blocks when it is time.
- When they hear a whistle, they will climb on to the blocks and wait.
- The announcer will say “Swimmers take your mark” and they will get into the dive ready position.
- They need to hold this position and be very still until they hear the starting horn.
- Moving or diving too soon will cause a swimmer to be DQ’d.
- (DQ’s will not count against us until our 3rd meet of the season)
- What if I have a problem?
- If at all possible, please take any problems/concerns to a board member during the meets. This allows the coaches to really focus on the swimmers and the meet. We will address anything coach related at the appropriate time.
- Remember to HAVE FUN most of all and insure that your swimmer is having fun as well!!
